CLEARBOOT FAQ'S

ClearBoot™ Frequently Asked Questions

POWER & LIGHTING

What powers the light and lasers?
Both the ClearBoot Plus and ClearBoot PRO are powered by 3 AAA batteries.
The ClearBoot PLUS batteries are in an external battery housing that has an ON/OFF slide switch.
The ClearBoot PRO version is powered by a custom designed battery housing with separate push-button switches—one for the LED ring light and one for the dual lasers.
Adhesive Velcro is included allowing you to connect the battery housing to the spindle mount.

Can it be used with regular wiring instead of battery power?
ClearBoot is designed for battery power to avoid cord clutter, but we offer guidance if you prefer a wired setup.

How long do the batteries last?
Typical run time is many hours of continuous use, depending on usage. Batteries are easily replaceable.

What type of light does it use?
ClearBoot uses an embedded LED light ring that fully surrounds the spindle, eliminating shadows.

Can I turn the light and lasers on separately on the ClearBoot PRO?
Yes. Each has its own push-button switch for full control.

LASERS & ALIGNMENT

How fine are the laser lines?
The lasers cast thin, bright reference lines that are easy to see even in a well-lit shop, allowing you to position your workpiece with accuracy.

How can I adjust the laser alignment?
Each laser unit has set screws that allow fine-tune adjustment so you can dial in the X and Y crosshairs with precision. A hex wrench (commonly called an allen wrench) is included for this adjustment.

Can the lasers stay on while cutting?
Yes. You can keep the lasers on throughout the cut, however to conserve battery life, it is recommended to turn off the lasers once you have both the X and Y axis zeroed.

Will the lasers interfere with material cutting or safety?
No. The lasers are low-power and strictly for positioning reference—they don’t burn or cut.

Do the lasers also set the Z-height?
No. The lasers are for aligning the X and Y axis.

INSTALLATION & FIT

Does the ClearBoot fit my CNC machine?
ClearBoot is designed to fit standard round spindles. Currently, we offer the 80mm and 65mm sizes. It mounts to the CNC by clamping it to the bottom of the spindle using the included hex wrench (commonly called an allen wrench). We are currently developing other sizes and mounting options.

Is it difficult to install?
Installation is simple—ClearBoot attaches in minutes with the included hex wrench.

What’s included in the box?
The ClearBoot STANDARD comes with magnetic skirt, hex wrench, and user guide.
The ClearBoot PLUS comes with magnetic skirt, LED light ring, external battery housing, 3 AAA batteries, hex wrench, and user guide.
The ClearBoot PRO comes with magnetic skirt, dual lasers, LED light ring, external battery housing, 3 AAA batteries, hex wrenches, and user guide.

DUST COLLECTION & SKIRT

What makes the ClearBoot “clear”?
The dust boot is made from transparent material so you can actually see the cutting action, unlike most opaque boots.

What size is the dust collection port?
ClearBoot has a 4-inch dust port that accepts standard tapered fittings, such as the Wood River #151292 sold by Woodcraft.

What if my dust collection hose is a different size?
ClearBoot comes standard with a 4-inch dust port. We also offer an in-house adapter that lets you connect a 2-1/2" dust collection hose as an alternative to the Powertec #70291 fitting.

Does ClearBoot affect dust collection performance?
Not at all. ClearBoot is designed to maintain strong suction while adding visibility and laser alignment. Its flexible clear skirt adapts to different dust collector strengths, so airflow remains effective across a wide range of CFM.

How do I change the skirt?
The detachable magnetic skirt lets you swap or remove it quickly—no tools required.

How tall is the skirt material?
The skirt is approximately 3-1/4 inches tall.

Can I order a skirt with a different height?
Soon, we will be offering a few other skirt heights.
